Tempest Fields

Weather in Nod, even in Enoch, does not always behave by normal conventions or scientific laws. The Tempest Fields exemplify this with near perpetual storms that thunder over its jagged crags and open plains. It is a bleak place somewhere near the mountains southwest of Enoch, where the sun or suns are almost always blocked out by clouds. Rich soils and sediments have been eroded away by the constant and sometimes fierce winds, exposing rocky spires and steep slopes. As such vegetation here is sparse and just as well because lightning strikes are frequent. It is reputedly so bad that the famed adventurer Montana Williams once said that lightning strikes somewhere in the Tempest Fields at least every thirty seconds. While this might be an exaggeration, they do cause periodic brush fires that can turn into fire whirls on especially windy days. Tornadoes, even without fire, are are another danger to look out for. It is not uncommon to see two or more in an area, never mind just one, tearing up rocks or shrubbery and throwing them through the air. Surprisingly it doesn't rain quite that often but when it does, it comes down in sheets and flash flooding become a serious risk and the Field's many gulches become the worst place to be.

So why do people brave the Tempest Fields? Where the weather seems like it is actively trying to kill everything that enters its domain and where barely anything can grow. That answer lies with the mineral wealth which has been exposed by erosion. Everything from semi precious and precious gems to rare or exotic metals can be found here. Crystalline structures jut out of dirt and rock, glowing with otherworldly power that some say is bestowed by the lightning itself. These are sought by alchemists, mages, and technomancers alike. However, be it sole prospector or whole guild, must brave the elements first if they want those riches.
